Jesus is It: The New Temple and Fulfillment of the Kingdom

Matthew 24.1-50

Jesus is the pivotal figure in this passage, as the prophet who predicts the destruction of the temple, himself being the new temple, and as the ultimate fulfillment of God’s kingdom. His words about the temple’s destruction point to a major turning point in history where the old covenant gives way to the kingdom of God. This kingdom not confined to Israel or any earthly nation. Jesus also serves as the fulfillment of God’s promises, with his resurrection marking the beginning of God’s kingdom on Earth, which continues through the spread of the gospel. In this passage, Jesus is both the herald of the kingdom and the means by which it will be fully realized at his return. His call for readiness and faithfulness centers on the mission of spreading the gospel, which remains central to the work of his followers until his ultimate return.
