Luke 14.25-33
03 April 2022
Church historians and sociologist have often noted throughout history the power of the gospel to lift someone’s social standing. When the gospel comes into someone’s life, they tend to become more responsible, they become less selfish, they become more humble, teachable, they listen better, and they tend to be kinder. All of these things tend to improve a persons social life and standing in the community. But often times, these side benefits called gospel lift, get repackaged as the primary call to the gospel. We find that many a church has turned the pulpit into a self-help desk of pseudo-psychology, but what is the real call of the gospel, is it really to improve self, or is it to die to self? those are two very different gospels and only one of them is true.
